Dong Nai province is located in the eastern part of South - VietNam with an area of 5,862.37 km2, accounting for 1.76% of the nation total natural area or 25.5% of the natural area of South-VietNam eastern region, having 9 dependent administrative units: Bien Hoa City political, economic and social center of the province, Long Khanh town and the districts of Long Thanh, Nhon Trạch, Thong Nhat, Vinh Cuu, Xuan Loc, Dinh Quan, Tan Phu, Trang Bom, Cam My.
Dong Nai is located in the southern key industrially developed region, bordered: East by Binh Thuan Province North-east by Lam Dong Province
North-west by Binh Duong and Binh Phuoc Provinces -
South by Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province West by Ho Chi Minh City.
Dong Nai Province has a middle land relief which is a transition between the plateaus of Central Viet Nam and the South-VietNam plains. In general, Dong Nai relief is relatively plane, 92% of land with a slope inferior to 15o, (82,09% inferior to 8o) and about 8% superior to 15o.
Dong Nai climate is tropical with sub-equatorial monsoons and two distinct seasons (the dry and the rainy). Temperature is high around the year, favorable for the growth of tropical trees, especially industrial trees with high export values. The average temperature is 25o - 26o in the year. Rain quantities are relatively high, about 1,500 mm to 2,700mm according to regions and seasons.
Dong Nai's population is 2,149,030 people (as of the Statistical Yearbook 2003 of Dong Nai Statistical Office), with 1,064,072 males and 1,084,958 females. Working age people are over 1 million persons.
Located within the southern key economic region, Dong Nai has used all the comparative advantages of the region and the province for its renewal program, and has obtained significant achievement, especially during the period 1996-2000:
Annual average economic growth of 12% (6.7% of the nation), the GDP in 2000 has doubled in comparison with 1995.
Industries have developed with a growth of 20.3% per year. Labour productivity in industries is two times that in services and 14 times that in agriculture.
Agriculture production, including livestock breeding has grown by 4.2% per year on the average.
The services branch has developed at a speed of 8.3% per year, of which the export turnover has grown by 48.7% per year on the average; the ratio of processed products exported is 70%.
Investment capitals are 2.5 times in comparison with the period 1991-1995, increasing the ratio of domestic investment capitals from 24% in 1995 to 40% in 2000. Foreign investment capitals have tripled in comparison with the period 1991-1995, of which capitals invested in industries account for 90%, which conforms to the economy structure change policy of the province.
